Can You Lose Weight Without Dieting?

Can You Lose Weight Without Dieting?

It’s the million dollar question: can you lose weight without counting calories, restricting certain foods, and slaving away at the gym 24/7? Our society tells us we can’t lose weight unless we push ourselves to the max, sweat it out at the gym at least 45 minutes a day and restrict calories, cut out carbs and/or limit certain foods. But constantly being on a rigid food plan, forcing yourself to get up at 5 am to spend an hour at the gym, and eating low-cal/low-fat/light foods sounds awful, not at all fun, and recipe for a serious binge… So what’s

“But If I Accept My Body, It Means I’m Giving Up!”

“But If I Accept My Body, It Means I’m Giving Up!”

Every single woman I work with is afraid to accept her body. (And I was terrified to accept my body for a long, long, long time). We have this belief that if we accept our bodies, it means that we’ll never lose weight and we’re giving up on ourselves. It took me years to stop despising my body, so I want to save you endless months of grief and turmoil by dispelling this belief. Accepting your body doesn’t mean you’re giving up. Giving up on what? Criticizing yourself until you feel like such a worthless piece of crap that you fall

Are You Constantly Trying to Hide Your Body?

Are You Constantly Trying to Hide Your Body?

Summer is coming. And if you’re anything like I was (and still am sometimes!), the thought of wearing shorts and tank tops sends you into a panic. (Or you avoid it altogether and refuse to bare any skin at all…) Are you constantly trying to hide your body? Do you always look for ways you can disguise, camouflage or cover those parts of yourself that you hate? Then read on, my dear, because this article is for you 🙂 I’ve been in a relationship with my significant other for about 4 years and realized the other day that for the past few

The Biggest Mistake You’re Making With Food

The Biggest Mistake You’re Making With Food

I recently wrote an article on MindBodyGreen called: The Biggest Mistake You’re Making With Food. And I got a lot of emails and comments about it. I’ve written about it before on my blog, but wanted to do a more in-depth video on this, as it’s super important. When we first start out on this path (trying to stop dieting and get our weight/food under control), we don’t know where to start. There are 4 billion articles out there (ok, maybe that’s a slight exaggeration… 🙂 ) on nutrition and dieting, and it’s easy to get confused about what to do.

What We Need To Teach Our Daughters About Body Image

What We Need To Teach Our Daughters About Body Image

I don’t have a daughter yet. However, I do have two beautiful nieces (pictured below…love them to pieces!), and the older one—at the young age of 5—is already conscious of her body and size. It pains me to think that, today, little girls have to deal with body shaming and pressure to conform to society’s skewed standards. As mothers and women, it’s our responsibility to teach the next generation of girls to feel empowered by who they are. We’ve got to teach our daughters to show up in the world confident, regardless of the shape or size of their bodies.

So You’ve Gained Weight. Now What?

Despite your best intentions of trying to diet and keep weight off, you’ve gained weight. Now what? Gaining weight can feel terrifying. We feel out of control and miserable. We’re afraid we’ll be judged, people will notice we’ve gained weight, and we’ll be known as the “fat” person. We feel like our self-worth is diminished, we won’t be accepted, and others will think we’ve let ourselves go. Weight gain is synonymous with misery and self-hate. We fight ourselves, kicking and screaming, desperately trying to claw our way back to the size we were before.   So let’s say you have gained weight.
