Have you ever gotten on the scale or glanced at your reflection in the mirror and have it completely ruin your day?
Maybe you’ve had a few days where you feel pretty good and decide to “check in” on your progress.
One glance or hop on the scale and BAM, it sends us spiraling into a rabbit hole of negative thoughts.
That negative spiral can derail our best laid plans, sink us into a dark place and keep us stuck at thinking we’re a “failure”.
So does the scale or mirror ruin your day? Check out these four things to help!

The 10 Day Let Go of the Scale Challenge
I am confused. I think all of this is easy to say when you are a naturally smaller person. Have you ever been obese? I look at your pic and think if I was your size I could follow your advice. However, I have been obese and have lost 40 pounds so far but I never could have done it by not redistricting and not weighing myself. I cannot eat like a “normal” person and be a healthy weight. I can’t eat the same foods as my family. I can’t eat the same portions. I have tried and I have also put my scale away before and ended up gaining so much weight. Never again.
Thanks a lot Jen!
One more time you read my mind, as I have lately fought with the question: should I go o the scale or not?
I loved the comparison to a job ! So true! It’s spot on !
Thanks so much!!
You are so welcome! Glad you enjoyed it 🙂
Hi Mary! One of my big intentions for my work is for readers and listeners to take what resonates and leave what they don’t. If this doesn’t resonate with you and you’ve found an approach that does, fantastic! We are all on our own paths with our own struggles. I’ve worked with many women who, by societal standards, have what we’ve been taught to be an “ideal body”…and they are some of the women who I’ve seen struggle the most with the scale, the mirror and body image. This post was meant to explore how we let the scale or the mirror ruin our day for those who struggle with it. For those it helps, wonderful. For those it doesn’t resonate with, no problem. Hope this helps. Thanks for commenting and expressing your view. Xo
I constantly check the scales every day
When I was obsessed with scale checking, I did some journaling on how it was affecting me (instead of “making myself” not weigh). It helped to see how I was letting an object literally tell me how to feel and I began to gain clarity about what kind of relationship I did want to have. For what it’s worth 🙂 XO
