Books on How To Stop Binge Eating

One of the most helpful tools on my own journey were the books I used for inspiration and guidance as I worked to break free from bingeing. I had books on my nightstand, in my purse, and in my closet to help me feel less alone when I got stuck.

Here are some of my favorites!

How to Be a Normal Eater: Finally Make Peace with Food and Life a Life Free from Dieting

Author: Jenn Hand (Yes, that’s me! I can’t not recommend my own book! 🙂)

What It’s About: This book outlines a four pronged approach to breaking free of the diet and binge cycle. The book begins with the physical aspects of healing, then goes into the mental, emotional and spiritual pieces of how to be a “normal” eater. Each chapter is short and actionable, so it’s one to keep on your nightstand for a few minutes of inspiration when you’re feeling stuck or need support in a specific area.

Why It’s Great: Readers have said they like the actionable, bite-sized chapters and stories that show how I applied the concepts in my daily life.

Intuitive Eating

Author: Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch

What It’s About: This is a non-diet approach to learning to listen to your body and break free from dieting. It gives 10 guidelines to help guide readers to return to feeling balanced and sane around food.

Why It’s Great: It goes very in depth in each chapter and is a great book to counteract the millions of diet books on the market.

Why Weight? A Workbook for Ending Compulsive Eating

Author: Geneen Roth

What It’s About: Geneen was a pioneer in writing about emotional eating and food as something other than simply fuel. Any of her books are amazing, but this one goes step by step into the mental and emotional aspects of why we overeat.

Why It’s Great: It’s a workbook so it asks tons of questions to get deep into the heart of why we binge and how to let go of food. It dives into some of the more poignant complexities of bingeing and is a great one to explore over time.
