Best Emotional Eating Books
When I was battling food, body and weight, books became my lifeline.
I loved having a physical book on my nightstand or in my purse to remind me to stay the course, to inspire me when I got discouraged, and to make me feel less alone (and less crazy) on this often lonely path. But these books on emotional eating really helped.
Here are my top recommendations to help you on your food freedom path!
Book Title: How to Be a Normal Eater: Finally Make Peace with Food and Live a Life Free from Dieting
Author: Jenn Hand (I couldn’t not recommend my own book, of course!)
Why I like this: While I may be biased because I wrote it, I’ve had many women tell me they love the real life stories and examples I weave through each chapter. They also love the practical tips and day to day application of “how” to actually stop emotional eating and feel sane.
Who it’s for: Anyone struggling with bingeing, feeling trapped in the diet cycle and stuck in emotional eating
Book Title: Women, Food and God
Author: Geneen Roth
Why I like this: Geneen Roth is the pioneer of the notion that food isn’t just food. She wrote about emotional eating and food freedom before it became mainstream. In this book, she talks about food in a deeper, spiritual sense. Whether or not you believe in God, it is well worth a read!
Who it’s for: Those wanting to go deeper into the emotional and spiritual aspects related to food.
Book Title: A Course in Weight Loss
Author: Marianne Williamson
Why I like this: This book takes a completely different approach to weight, including the emotional piece of food and how it is related to weight. It has bite size chapters and is a great one to go back to again and again as you move forward on this path.
Who it’s for: This is also related to the weight aspect of food, so if you struggle with weight as part of your food battle, definitely check it out.
Book Title: The Power of Now
Author: Eckhert Tolle
Why I like this: If you haven’t heard of Eckhert, check him out on YouTube. He oozes “zen!” His teachings focus on living in the present, which transformed my outlook on life. This book emphasizes the importance of being present in our bodies, not dwelling on where we want to be, and finding inner peace–which are hugely important when it comes to being able to move through emotions and not eat over them!
Who it’s for: This is a little bit complex in how he writes, so read a sample chapter before you buy! This is for anyone wanting to explore more mindfulness and presence around food, body and weight (or life in general!)
