When we first realize that dieting doesn’t work, learning how to listen to our body can be terrifying. So, how do you start to trust yourself around food? How do you take all of the years spent NOT listening to your body and learn to trust yourself again? Find out in today’s video!
Trust is a big part of feeling free around food. We typically begin dieting because we don’t trust ourselves…we think that if left to our own devices, we’ll spiral out of control and gain 100 pounds.
I’m here to debunk this myth and tell you that you CAN start trusting your body.
Is it scary? Yes.
Is it easy? No. (If it were, no one would every go on a diet!). But it IS possible and I hope you give yourself the space to experiment with planting the seedlings of trust 🙂
A part of rebuilding trust is understanding that trust comes with time and experience.
Think about a relationship you’re in where you fully trust the other person. You didn’t meet that person and give them your full trust on day one. Through living life together, you began to develop a trust between each other. And so it is with food.
Bit by bit, you learn to trust yourself a little more each day.
For me, it was a gradual “push out of the nest”. I was restrictive at first (thinking I was being more free) because I didn’t trust myself. As I realized I COULD have a glass of wine, a few pieces of pizza, a brownie or two and not spiral out of control, I developed more and more trust with myself.
